Livin’ The Mission (What Not To Love)

I’ve got good news for those who are tired of the snow…it’s the last week of January.

We are continuing the series “Livin’ the Mission” connecting White Branch’s mission statement to the book of 1 John.

This week I will be preaching on 1 John 2:15-17 on “What Not To Love.”

This past Sunday I preached on “Growing Up” spiritually from 1 John 2:12-14. Three types of people are spoken too here, “children,” “young men” and “fathers.” I took that to mean there are at least three phases to spiritual development. So I gave a few characteristics of each group and then some suggestions on how to move, or grow from one phase to the next.

If you are not a child of God, or have not been born-again by God, I gave two suggestions:

#1 Trust Jesus (John 3:3)

#2 Get Baptized (Mark 16:16)

If you are a child, and young in your faith, I gave four suggestions:

#1 Get the Word of God/Bible in you (Read, Study, Meditate, Hear, Memorize, Do) (Romans 10:17)

#2 Prayer (1 Thess. 5:17)

#3 Attend Church Regularly (Hebrews 10:25)

#4 Tithe/Give (Malachi 3:10)

If you are a young adult in the faith, I gave three suggestions:

#1 Find your spiritual gift. (Rom. 12, 1 Cor. 12)

#2 Serve someone else with your gift (1 Peter 4:10)

#3 Share the good news with others (Mark 16:15)

If you are a parent in the faith, I gave three suggestions:

#1 Evangelism: Help others to know Jesus.

#2 Discipleship: Help others grow in Jesus.

#3 Persevere (Luke 8:15)

I encourage you to prayerfully identify where you are spiritually and begin to find the one task that will most help you grow and begin to do that with the Lord’s help.

We’ve got a full and abundant week in the life of the church this week.

Wednesday we have a leadership team meeting at 7 pm at the church.

Saturday is the goal setting seminar that I am doing from 9am-12 noon. This is a great opportunity for personal improvement as well as a way to invite people to come who may not be ready to come to church. (I am attaching an insert style brochure).

Sunday is our fifth Sunday pitch-in dinner following the service. Following dinner will be our church forum meeting.

God Bless,

Brian Mackie
