What is Love Feast

Hello,

This week we remember events from the greatest week in human history.  We remember Jesus’ entrance to Jerusalem.  We remember His meal with the disciples and how He washed their feet and gave them the bread and cup.  We remember the mock trials and the whipping and beatings He took.  We remember the cross and the death.  We remember the day of sadness and mourning.  We remember the first day of the week and Jesus’ resurrection.

I encourage you to take some time this week to attend a special service to help you remember this and experience Jesus’ work fresh this year.  I also encourage you to read through the last few chapters of one of the four gospel accounts.  Let God speak to you in this time and honor Jesus’ work.

Remember we have Love Feast (our footwashing, meal and communion service) Thursday night at 7 pm at White Branch.

We have Community Good Friday service Friday night at 7 pm at New Testament Church of Christ.

We have SonRise service at 8:00 am Sunday, followed by breakfast at 8:30, Sunday School at 9:30 and Worship at 10:30.  The Message at the Worship Service will be "What does Easter mean to me Monday?"

Chicken N Dumplings is also coming up Friday April 29 from 4 pm – 7 pm.

It is a busy and exciting time in the life of our church.

Hope you can join us and that you have a great week.

Attached below are the notes from Sunday’s Sermon:  "What is the Love Feast?"

Palm Sunday:

“What is the Love Feast?”

Verses: John 13:1-17, 1 Corinthians 11:23-32, Jude 12

Why Brethren do the Love Feast:

#1  Jesus washed our feet and gave us an example that we should do also. (v 15)

#2  Jesus commanded that we wash feet. (v 14)

#3  Footwashing is a cleansing for those who have had a bath.  (v 10)

#4  We will be blessed if we do what Jesus commanded. (v 17)

4 Parts of the Love Feast:

#1  Examination (1 Cor. 11:23-32)

#2  Footwashing (John 13:3-17)

#3  Meal (Gospels, 1 Corinthians 11, Jude 12)

#4  Communion (Matt. 26:26-28, 1 Cor. 11)

3 questions to ask yourself this week:

(I will also use these three questions this Thursday in our examination time)

#1  Are you still in the faith of the gospel as you declared at your baptism?

Do you still believe?

#2  Are you, as far as you know, in peace and union with the church?

Are things right between you and others in the church?

#3  Will you still labor with the Brethren for an increase of holiness both in yourselves and others?

Are you serving others in ministry?

Are you still striving for holiness?

Let us take these three questions and examine ourselves for the next few days leading up to the Love Feast.
