What does the Bible mean to me on Monday?

Hello,

Still waiting for those April showers to leave so we can have May flowers right?

This Sunday is Mother’s Day.  Make it a great day by coming out to church as I will preach on "How To Get Along With Your Family on Monday."  Now I know this is a big title, but I will do my best to give you some tips from the Bible about how to get along with your family during the week.

This past Sunday I preached on "What does the Bible mean to me on Monday?"  Deuteronomy 32:47 says, "They are not just idle words for you–they are your life."  This is the key verse for Sunday’s message.  I want us to recognize that these words are your life.  The more we recognize that, the more we will want to know what the Bible says.

My wife informed me that this past Monday the King James Bible celebrated its 400th Anniversary!  I just wanted to pass that on in the light of this Sunday’s message.

Why These Words Are Your Life:

#1  The Bible is God’s Words.  (2 Peter 1:20-21, 2 Tim. 3:16)

#2  God created all.  (Gen. 1:1, Psalm 24:1)

#3  Solomon told us to get wisdom.  (Prov. 4:7-8)

#4  Wisdom is getting the Lord’s words on how life works.

Deuteronomy promises God’s best for obedience in these Scriptures:  Deut. 5:32-33, 6:3-8, 7:12-16, 11:18-21, 11:26-28

4 Actions to Take to Get to know God’s Word better:

#1  Get a version of the Bible you like:

Easiest Read:  New Living Translation

Most Contemporary Feel:  The Message

Most Literal (Word for Word):  New American Standard

Most Traditional Read:  King James Version (now 400 years old)

My Personal Favorite:  New International Version

For Non-Readers:  http://www.biblegateway.com/resources/audio/  and http://www.audio-bible.com/

For online bibles:  http://www.biblegateway.com/ and http://www.blueletterbible.org

#2  Read one of the following:

For wisdom:  Proverbs

For Jesus:  Matthew (5-7)

For New Testament:  Ephesians (4-6)

For Action/Adventure:  1 and 2 Samuel (about Saul and David)

For a short novel type:  Ruth or Jonah

#3  Take one Scripture per week and memorize it.

#4  Keep a journal.

With each Bible reading ask, "What is God saying to me?"
